Should have posted here first. I bought an '02 Explorer a few weeks ago. found this site via Google. Wish I'd read it before I made my purchase. Now I kind of wonder about the '02. Owner gave me reciepts and has had a LOT of work done on the rear driveline. It has 115,000 now. Based on my past used car experience I felt I'd get to 150/160 easily. Now I wonder.

This is a great forum by the way. Compared to other auto fourms, where questions are answered by sarcasm etc.

Welcome to this forum! Every vehicle has something wrong with it, so it's hard to generalize about a particular year. The 5R55W transmission has known issues with the solenoid block going after 60K miles, excessive wear in the servo bores, and bands breaking. What was done to it until now?

Greetings Cheesehead. I'm headed your way in a few days. Spending a few days in Hayward (Wife's college friend is putting us up) and then to Brookfield for the rest of our trip (the inlaws live there and my wife used to live there too). Hopefully will have some time for Summerfest.

Welcome to the best Explorer reference anywhere.
