Hey everyone! I'm new here so I thought that I'd say hello! And I have a couple of questions. About a month ago I went to turn the Ol' Exploder and it made that dinging noise like the door was open. So I tried opening and closing all of the doors and nothing worked. I figured it would go away after a couple minutes but it hasn't. It does it the WHOLE TIME that the key is in the ignition. What was weird was that at the same time I also noticed that the homelink thing that says the temperature and wind direction also went out. I think it's too much of a coincedence that they both went haywire at the same time. I can't figure out what the problem is or how to stop it. Also, about 8 months ago she started sputtering like she couldn't breathe and you couldn't get her passed 45 MPH. So, we tore her engine apart and found out that her intake gasket was blown and the bolts holding it together were only hand tight. So we fixed it up and she ran perfect. But about 2 weeks ago she started that up again. Now you can't even really get her over 35 MPH. It's worse now than it was before. I think the intake manifold is warped but I'm not sure?! Please Help! Thanks! :salute:

Welcome! As far as the dinging, its possible that there is a short in the multi-function switch (wipers, turn signal, etc). try to adjust the hight of the steering wheel and see if it goes away, as thats the case with mine. everything else.... beyond me lol, good luck!

Welcome to the forum. The dinging can also be a bad switch in the door latch that senses whether the door is open or not which is a common thing. As far as the sputtering sounds like you might have a vacuum leak somewhere. The check engine light isn't on?

More than likely the dinging sound is your door switch inside the door. More than likely its stuck. I replaced mne for $20 awhile back, all it is is a little circular switch (about 1" in diameter) attached by 2 screws.

As for the spluttering, maybe the fuel filter.

The check engine light has been on since I got it. So has the Door Ajar light. Let me put it to you this way...the guy I bought it from said that they couldn't get it to go over 45 MHP or so. They said something was wrong with overdrive but when I got in to test drive it they didn't even have the overdrive on. I'm not quite sure about other models of Explorers but on mine there's an actual overdrive button at the end of the shifter that you have to push and he couldn't figure that out. So.....

door ajar ding

One day I started up my 98 X and the door ajar chim/dinging just wouldnt stop. Really annoying when driving.

I sprayed some WD40 into the door locks and and sure enough it cleaned/lubricated something and it worked! Easy fix.

welcome
