The Connector and its wires are running right along side the intake manifold on the passenger side, and actually mount to the intake. Now, the truck (02 Ranger 4.0) has a rough idle. A few days ago, i fixed a leaking vacuum (or breather) hose, right in that area, the hose was for sure, faulty. However, I noticed that the two wires in question, were bare. I separated them best I could. Now, a few days later, the truck starts running rough, and I believe those bare wires are at fault, but am not certain and I am curious as to what they actually go to.

First welcome to the forum.

Can you get us a picture or what colors the wire were?

It is hard to see, but its the small connector just above the oil cap there, with the yellow and black wires. Right on the side of the intake.

They run the length of the intake, then down, behind the engine. The front runs down near where the coolant empature sensors are, but can't see exactly where they go.

If I am not mistaken that is going to be your inlet air temperature sensor.

Any way to splice a new section of wire in there where the burnt spot is?

Your rough idle might be fouled spark plugs due to the vacuum leak you fixed.

Ah, I see. Now, it could be, but the weird thing is, its not doing it all the time. Even when its not running totally rough, its not all there, but the total, rough idle, low RPM, doesn't occur all the time. Which is damn strange. But, Ill definitely check the plugs.

It would be a cheap place to start.
