New guy with an '00 XLS

Just bought a better-than-average XLS yesterday, for 700 bucks. Something's up with the a/c pump & CC, and I replaced the front o2 sensor. Oh, and it needs tires(not one matching pair, and one is starting to separate). BUT, no dents, no rust, no scratches, and not a chip in the windshield, I think I did good. I WAS going to clean it up and flip it. Even got an offer for 2200 for it within a half hour of getting it home. But after seeing what DR did to another 2wd Explorer, I'm having second thoughts. So until I leave, I'll be going over it with a fine tooth comb.

I live in central OR, but am up in central AK working right now - where I bought this XLS. I have several weeks here still, but I'm trying to get myself psyched up to drive the 2500+ miles in a $1k vehicle. Expenses include and expect to be: title & reg, o2 sensor, good used tires, battery, rear wiper arm and a detail. I'm trying not to spend more than 1200 before I leave

The truck runs great. It should. It barely has 118k miles on it. But first thing's first - tires and yank the stock radio for something I can plug my mp3 into. A DVD player in it would be nice, but I'm a bit too cheap for that extravagance (Am I wrong?? Can I get one cheap enough?)

Welcome to this forum! I'm surprised to see snow in the picture. What's the temperature there? It was a good deal for $700.

There was a record snowfall here, this year. It's been averaging 45+ lately, and melting fast. I'm seeing I'm going to have to expand my max budget for this thing. Mainly because of lack of options for good used tires. Or ANY used tires, for that matter, and until I decide to drive it home, I'm not ready to buy the new tires for it, yet

However, CC issue is solved. For whatever reason, it was unplugged. I saw the same thing with the a/c. Weird. I'll find out later if the a/c actually works now - when it gets warm enough to actually justify it. If not, 4-70 will always work

I was a bit surprised to learn my Avalanche gets better (21+) MPG as the Explorer (19-20). Going to have to see about changing that. Although I haven't made a real road trip yet, so that still remains to be seen
