1998 Eddie Bauer 4.0 SOHC
Hey all,
My name is Tory I actually don't own a Explorer its mu Gf's. Its a 98 Eddie Bauer Edition Explorer with a 4.0 SOHC motor. Anyways she's had it a year when she got it I rebuilt the front suspension entirely and put new belts and hoses on the thing. Other than oil changes and routine maintanence I haven't messed with it because I'm not a fan of OHC motors. However I had some spare time on saturday and she was complaining about it having idling problems. So I started by taking apart all the sensors off the plentum and cleaning the IAC valve (that seemed to fix the problem for her). Anyways after looking at how everything is put together I'm looking at doing a few things this week but first I got some questions: I can't seem to find the PCV valve (if there is one). I see the hose running from the passenger side valve cover to the intake tube but nothing on the driver side valve cover. Is there anything else I need to put a breather on to do a PCV delete? Anyways besides that I'm looking at port matching the plentum and intake manifold, tb port and polish as well as half shafting it, also plugs, fuel filter, and change all the axel fluids. Not looking to do a cai mainly because I might start doing a little mudding with it and I don't want water to get in there (it already has a K&N filter so I'm good there). Also exhaust is out of the question (she would kill me... Anyways looking to have some fun with it in the future even thought I don't care for the motor. Besides the explorer my vehicles are my 98 Ford F150 4.2 (details bellow), 2000 Z28 Camaro 427 swap, and a 1987 S10 2.5 race truck. Thanks for any info.

The pcv is back there...passenger side just in front ofd the firewall. trace the tube back and its there, but hard ot see

try cleaning the mass air flow sensor too. That smooths idle out too. if it persists, you may look at doing intake manifold gaskets. They are cheap for parts (about $35 was it) but take a good couple of hours to put on

Thanks for the reply. Ok I'll look for that pcv valve. I was thinking about cleaning the maf today but I'll be sure to do it. Ok I will look into the gaskets. I have nothing but time to spend on this thing.
