New Head Unit

I have a 1995 4dr that had the JBL audio system. I say had because I just installed an Alpine CDA-9805 head unit (the JBL sub is still operational). My main reason for the change was to have a cd player. But, to be honest, I thought the stock unit sounded better and cleaner at higher volumes. My next thought is to put in new speakers, but I don’t want to do it if the sound doesn’t get materially better. Has anyone installed a similar head unit and then put in new speakers afterwards. If so, was the sound any better? Thanks.

Did you bypass the stock amp (4 corners)? If not that could ruin the sound of your new HU. Also, the stock speakers are crap, even a decent set of 4 for $80 from Walmart will sound better.

Yes, the stock amp was completely bypassed.
