2006 Explorer
Hi, I 'm new here to this forum and am looking for some advise. I have a 2006 XLT Explorer. Purchased the truck a few weeks ago and noticed that the radio would not pick up any stations FM or AM. I did a search that led me here. After reviewing some of the threads, i purchased and replaced the antena unit. It worked for about six hours until the first rain and has not been right since:mad:. still not picking up any stations well. Obviously there are some folks here woth some expertise in this matter. what do I need to look at next. Thanks for the help!

I have already enjoyed looking throught the site. I am a member of another forum for the 73 Z28 I also own. Ford guy to the bone but since the firsthot rod I ever had with my GF was a 73 Camaro, when I maried her and 15 years later we got a bug to get another and we love both.:us:

I'm not sure what the problem is, but does the antenna plug into the back of the radio, and did you remove the radio to replace the antenna? Or did you just replace the antenna itself. My am reception is horrible anyway, but you should at least have decent fm. Ford stock head units are poor.

I replaced the antenna and mast upto the connection behind the glove box. I read a thread here that described corrosion in the antenna. When I inspected the old one, it was indeed full of corrosion. I may try to pull the head unit this weekend to look at the connections there.

Does any know if there should be any ohm readi gs between the back of the head unit and the end where the mast attaches?

Figured it out

Well I pulled the head unit and found that when the previous owner installed the satelite radio, they had to use two antenna adapters. Since we havent used the satelite radio but a few times, I diconnected it and ran the factory antena cable directly to the head unit. Problem solved.
