Hi, I had a 2001 Sport Trac years ago and really miss it. Best truck ever made! At the moment I am looking at a 2010 Adrenalin with the V8. I know all the issues that the 4.0 V6 had and looking for advice and what I may run into with a 10 year year Sport Trac and the V8.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome !!! NICE, helpful folks here !!!!

I have a '10 STA and have no real unusual problems with it. By the 2010 model year most of the bugs had been ironed out. We have some mention on the boards about the drive shaft (cannot repair must replace in the AWD model), and other miscellaneous problems as are present with all 10 year old vehicles. Just adhere to the maintenance schedule and check and replace wearable items (brake pads, wipers, belts, etc) and you should do fine. Welcome to the group.

2009 XLT here with nearly 116,000 miles. Have a V6 and, until the post above, wasn't aware that the 4.0 V6 had any problems! I've had no engine related issues. I'm the second owner and have had the truck since 2012 when I bought it as a 16,000 mile CPO. Main issue I've had has been wheel bearings. I've never had a vehicle that's chewed up wheel bearings like this one. I've replaced both of the fronts, one twice, and both of the rears. I have the maintenance done at the Ford recommended intervals using Mobil 1 oil and, by in large, Motorcraft parts. Getting ready to trade on a 2021 Ridgeline in the next few weeks. I'm going to miss the Sport Trac.

by 2010, the v8 spark plug and exhaust manifold bolt issues were fixed. the fuel pump driver module corroding can still be a problem, but is an easy fix. radiator leaks are typical, but i found that switching to a 16psi radiator cap stops that.

I've had my 2010 Adrenalin v8 since 2011. its needed both front wheel bearings and a new transmission, because the torque converter went out. overall i still like this truck more than any other mid sized truck for sale right now!

Maintenance records are nice - shows owner valued/took care of the truck, doesn't mean it will be in any better shape than the next truck.

I like the adrenalin, but didn't like the lack of control over 4wd system - there is a hack for that posted, which makes it more attractive now.

The standard issues sparkplug/exhaust/radiator (and maybe blend motor door for hvac) are mentioned, most everything else is maintenance and knowing what to look for.

Take it into FORD for a once over before buying.

for reference I do have a ML320CDI which I do most work on.
The front brake line blew on it recently.
It blew since it is designed to bend the flexible section of the hose in the same spot over and over again when turning.
Most Mercedes owners take their vehicles in for service, Mercedes is aware of issue (no recalls) and quietly swaps the lines and essentially charges for a routine brake flush (lines are about $20 cost).
So My lesson learned here is do the maintenance and also know what are the common issues with the vehicle and keep an eye on them.

Also, the V6 comes with the 5R55 transmission that has just as many issues, if not more, than the SOHC V6.
