Hi everyone! I just bought a 2002 explorer xlt v8. I just had a few questions that I hope you can help me out with.
1. The rear wiper wouldnt come on, fluid would come on but the wiper wouldnt go. I searched around on here and it looks somewhat common on this but Im not exactly sure Im turning it on right. Is the correct way to turn it on by using the switch to the right of the front ones?
2. When Im driving and take my foot off of the gas I get a humming noise around 30-40 mph, but it goes away when I accelerate. Is that normal or could it be a problem?
3. How long should it take for the interior lights to turn off after I lock the doors? Tonight it took about 5 mintues for them to go off after I locked the door.
and lastly
4. I bought it used and is there a simple way to re-program the code for the keypad entry? I found instructions on ebay to buy this morning but I cant find them on there to buy anymore.

TIA, I searched around as much as possible but couldnt really find anything that directly answered my questions.

For the rear wiper motor -- check the fuses first. If thats good, check if theres voltage at the pump's motor (no idea where that is).

As for the noise at 30-40 mph, you'll need to take this to the dealer as the rear axle's pinion bearings need work. This is common in third generation Explorers, especially the 2002s and unfortunately, quite costly.

In addition, check your rear coil springs as it is common for the 2002s to break coil springs.

A repair manual is also a worthwhile investment:

Ford Fleet has your owners manual in PDF form in case you dont have it anymore -- it of course has the fuse diagrams:

Thanks, Ill look under there in the daylight tomorrow. I ordered a new owners manual, and I am going to order one of those repair manuals later. I actually just bought it this morning and will be pretty pissed if the the coil springs are broken.

The 30-40 mph noise is more serious -- if a coil is indeed broken, you can pretty much replace one by yourself in a few hours with a regular set of hand tools, a jack, and a jack stand.

The factory set code cannot be reprogrammed but you can create your own 5digit personal entry code. When pressing the controls on the keypad, press the middle of the controls to ensure a good activation.

Up to three personal entry codes may be programmed to the vehicle. To create your own personal entry code:
1. Enter the factory set code.
2. Within five seconds press the 1 2 on the keypad.
3. Enter your personal 5-digit code. Each number must be entered within five seconds of each other.
4. Press 1 2, 3 4 or 5 6 to indicate which of the three personal entry code positions you wish to use.
5. The doors will again lock then unlock to confirm that your personal key code has been programmed to the module.
Tips:
Do not set a code that uses five of the same number.
Do not use five numbers in sequential order.
The factory set code will work even if you have set your own personal code.
If you program a code to a position that already contains a set code, the previously-set code will be erased.

The factory code is located on the owner's wallet card in the glove box
Is available from your authorized dealer via scan code
Is marked on the computer module

:thumbsup:Hope this helps ^_^

Thanks, that helps alot. I looked under and the right rear spring looked brand new. There was a barcode on it that looked like it had just been out the box. I couldnt see the left one because the ground was wet and I was in a rush and wouldnt have time to go get changed after getting down and looking. I also checked the card in the glove box but there wasnt anything written on it.

Thanks everyone, this information has been a big help!
