Hi, I'm new to this site. I've had my 05 explorer for about 6 months. I have a limited with the climate control. Here's the problem; the a/c will only work with the climate control turned to dual, and it only works on the passanger side and rear a/c. It still blows on the driver side and second row seats, but it isn't cold out of those. The dealership I bought it from said that the blower motor needs to be replaced, and for $600. I am sceptickle that it is the blower since it does blow cold out of the passanger and rear air. So the compressor has to be working.
Anyone have any input on it? I can fix it if it is a blower motor, but I want to be sure that is what it is before I tear into the dash.
I appreciate any input.

weird.

I wouldn't think (but I DON'T know) that there would be two blower motors up front. Maybe part of the dual zone climate control? Normally when one side works, but the other doesn't it winds up being a stuck or failing damper.

The rear air is (again, i think) on a seperate unit that is mounted in the rear, so it may or may not be an indication of what the front is doing.

My main recommendation is to buy a real (not a chiltons or whatever) service manual. Mine has saved me countless hours of research and hoping others would chime in.

Good luck with it!

might have another diagnosis

I appreciate your input, but I was told that it might be something else.

I called thoroughbred ford a dealership in kc to ask about it. He told me that there is only one blower motor for the front vents. He said that he thought it might be one of the blend door motors are broke or just malfunctioning. I don't know much about them, but from what I have researched it sounds possible.

Anyone know about or had problems with the blend door or the door motor?

There are a few threads in this forum about people fixing the blend door and/or actuator in Gen 3s without removing the whole dash. But as near as I can remember they were all dealing with the manual climate control system which only has one blend door and actuator. Yours does have two blend doors and actuators. The good news is that the guys who fixed the manual systems were working from the drivers side, and since yours has failed on that side it stands to reason that you could do it too. Search this forum and I think you'll find what you need. Please let us know what you find out. Good luck.
