New member, Broken Truck in NC

Hello, my name is Randy, and I'm a new Explorer owner. I have had many Ford vehicles including a Mustang, Superduty and currently drive a Focus SVT. I'm new to explorers and this site. So first off HELLO!

I'm sure this will be a great help for the future, and as most opther sites I'm part of, I will engage more and more once I get up to speed on the intricities of the explorer.

So anyhow!

So here's my dilema! I'm a helicopter pilot and am going to work in the Gulf of Mexico. I needed a vehicle down there anyhow so started looking, and "accidentally" won an explorer off Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=005&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=150270786173&rd=1 Not a bad deal for less than $800.

So here's the issue. I'm very mechanically inclined so I plan on doing this myself, and I have new heads for it, that I'm going to have shipped somewhere..... but I was wondering if there were any members that could help out and get me a place close by to NC (I could have AAA tow it up to 200 miles after I drive it as far as it will go so maybe up to 3-400 miles from Raleigh NC)) to do the work and hopefully help out, especially if your PRACTICED at this so it could be done in minimal time. Would be happy to pay for your time and provide frosty amber beverages during the repair.


If you know of any way to help it would be very appreciated.

I think so as well. It looks straight.

A couple of years ago I got a FREE Astro van with a blown head gasket. I got it to do a V8 swap in it, but in the mean time I got a bottle of liquid head gasket, followed the directions religiously and got about 12,000 miles out of it until I became a little complacent with checking the water and overheated it again.

I had planned to try the same thing with this but scored a fresh set of heads, so figured why take the chance.

Cool, that would workout great, my other option is to use a liquid headgasket sealer and see how that will get me, then do the heads when it breks for good, but would really rather start a new job of right with a decent runing vehicle.

Sounds great! I have heads, gaskets (head and intake), and headbolts already.

I'll PM you for to work out the details, and we'll get a better idea of exactly when and such in the next 10 days or so.

OK, they want me there on Sept 10th, So looks like arriving in Raleigh on Sat Sept 6th would be prudent. That would give us Sunday Monday and part of Tuesday if need be.

1. Would that work out?
2. Are Autoparts stores open on Sundays in NC?
3. I need to firm up this so I can have the heads shipped, as i won't be bringing them with me on the plane
