'93 LIMITED
Hi all,
I posted an introduction earlier this month. Now I need some help.
I have a 93 Limited with automatic and push button four wheel drive.
The four wheel drive was working just fine, then one day when I pushed the button nothing happened. I get no lights or indicators, and no four wheel drive.
I tried it at various speeds, in gear and out, nothing happens. I checked the fuses, no problem there. I looked through the Chilton repair manual for a wiring diagram related to the four wheel drive, did not find much shown.
I looked over the wiring under the vehicle, no visible problems there either.
What could cause this? I do not off road it much, mainly highway driving.
Where can I find more info about the four wheel drive wiring?
Is there a solenoid or relay somewhere?
Help,
Thanks, you have a great forum here and have enjoyed reading some of the threads but, have not found any related to my problem.
Doug

One easy fix can be bad connections. I had a similar problem out on the trail and remembered a thread on here. All I did was disconnect the wiring connection on the xfer case and plug it back in. And tah da the lights went on and she engaged. Hope its that easy for you.

have someone sit in the back of your explorer, with the cover on the driver side removed, where the jack and stuff is. then hit the 4x4 button and have them listen for a click.

if your getting the click then you need to do the shift motor fix thats stickied in the transmission area.

my explorer done the same thing, and i just fixed it tonight, the electronic shift motor that is bolted to the back of the transfer case will get gummed up if its not used often enough, i was going to take it apart and clean it out, but i tapped on if for a few minutes with a peice of pipe while my cousin was in it pushing the button, and after a few minutes it kicked on, and i took it out muddin for several hours and it worked good as new. so i would try that first to see if it works, it worked for me. but dont hit it to hard, cuz i hear that they are like 300 bucks for a new one. good luck.

Week before last we had some pretty heavy rain. I stopped to check the mail and the area around where I parked was pretty sloppy. So when I went to leave I was sorta slipping so I engaged 4x4 it worked fine. 3 days later more rain the area was really sloppy. Before I parked I pushed the button and nothing except the clicking in the back no 4x4 though. then it dawned on me last June I had to tap on the shift motor for the same thing. So today as soon as it warms up a bit I'll be rebuilding my shift motor. I sure hope this finally fixes this nagging problem Ill keep y'all posted.

yep the rebuild went off without a hitch I'm so happy to have 4wd again
