First of all, hello and thanks for your site. I am an active member of celicasupra.com and own several of those. I'm trying to help my son in FL with the 95 v6 xlt he inherited from me. It has 260 k and runs well, and has recently had some expensive trips to the mechanic, courtesy of my ex's boyfriend. (Thanks, guy).
Over last 10 years of ownership: Fuel pump replaced 7 yrs ago, tranny rebuilt once, and not much else at all until recently.
My son lives and attends college in Orlando at Valencia CC, and I've had to arrange work on his explorer via quickie internet searches. He has a stalling, cutting out problem, and the car will no longer crank after restarting in neutral a few times and running intermittently if he kept rpm's up.
I've read some about dirty IAC, dirty MAF, and I know for a fact that a temp or water temp sensor code was popping up, and he would reset the pcm to clear safe mode.
Whew! My question: Can anyone in Orlando tell me of a reputable shop who won't chase phantoms and will know the usual suspects on the 4.0 v6? He lives on the northeast side of Orlando off of North Alafaya Trail /East Colonial/Hwy 50. I will try to talk him through the iac cleaning this afternoon.
I think Rutherfords did his AC compressor last summer. (I think the name is right).
Any tips would help. I'm sure there are some trustworthy shops. He has been ripped of by some of the generic muffler and tire chains, and the dealer might be kind of pricey for us this month. Thanks! Doug 404-966-9722
