1998 Explorer XLT
Hi everyone! I just recently inhereted a 98 Explorer from my grandfather. The car has been in the family since he bought it off the lot brand new in 1999, only 12 miles listed on the title!

With this being an older vehicle, she obviously needs some work done before I can get her going again. I recently did all new spark plugs and wires. She has a rough idle when sitting, goes under 500 RPM sometimes and then stalls out. Im replacing the fuel pressure regulator to see if that will help, but if that does not work, do you guys have any idea what else it could be? (V6 4.0L OHV)

I'm also trying to get the factory radio replaced with a double din since the factory one is completely busted. I was hoping someone might have a link to a good thread with step by step instructions for install? It would be my first time ever messing with car audio, so i want to make sure its somewhat successful 😅.

Possibly an issue with the IAC, Idle Air Controller.

For the double DIN check www.crutchfield.com . So a search for 1999 Explorer and it will show you a bunch of factory radio options to select from. Choose the right one, and then it will show you what is available for your vehicle. They have installation accessories as well as the head units.

Helpful info for the rest of us also! Another example for my self healing truck, suddenly the factory radio now displays the time, station info and everything else in neon green! Has never worked before in the 2 years since I bought it! Have to assume a loose connection/cracked solder joint somewhere inside the radio.
