Hello All,

I have just joined and so here I am posting for the first time on your site. I have owned my '95 XLT for quite a while and had a '92 explorer before that one. My current SUV is green with the leather interior, 4WD, factory class III hitch, sunroof, and auto transmission. I have 10.5 X 31 inch tires on the factory wheels. My big complaint is the transmission slipping and the engine being under powered.

Who knows maybe you guys will inspire me to fix all the stuff wrong with it and there are a few mechanical problems I'd like to remedy.

I had to replace a broken shock on it last summer and need to replace the front right side wheel hub bearing since it sings a little bit. My transmission needs a service since it slips a little bit and its needing a few fixes here and there, but is a good running little truck.

Mileage on explorer...

I have 166,900 miles on my Explorer. I need to definitely do a transmission service on it. Is there a particular brand name and spec of fluid you would recommend, and why? What is the part # on the filter. I have seen it done on an aerostar on a buddy's vehicle, but I have not done it myself since I bought it several years ago.

I guess I have to drop the pan on the transmission to replace it, right? Are there any tricky steps to doing the job, considering its a 4 wheel drive?

Here is a picture of it. As you can see I have a Thule rack on it to better haul my canoe with-- It is Idaho after all.

Welcome To The Forum! No tricky steps but to take the bolts out of the back first and slowly move forward since the pan has no drain hole. But I too think that maybe just changing the fluid and filter may cure your situation. There is a thread on here also on how to do a trans flush at home.

Other complaints keeping the truck from being where I want it:

One:
My driver's window froze in upright position this winter and I either pulled the window out of the track when the power window dropped it.

Two:
CD changer is currently not playing.

Three:
There is static intermittently in the stereo on rear passenger speaker like it has a ground on the body somwhere in the wiring.

Four:
Power off button on the stereo has a catch or something so its on all the time, although at times the volume is down at times.

Five:
Power antenna is broken

Six:
I need to replace hub for front right wheel bearing

Seven:
I need to replace the front valance

Eight:
Front bumper is missing its license plate bracket due to a drunk hitting it in the middle of the night parked in front of my house.

Nine:
I need to replace the running board on the driver's side.
