- 2009 Ford Explorer
I am very excited to be a member of the Explorer Forum. I've read some negative articles on other sites about the Explorer of almost every year. But I haven't found any of them to be true. My Explorer is a 2009 bought about 3 years ago from a friends dad, who also purchased it used from a used car dealer. Niether of us knew how well the vehicle was maintained by previous owners. I know my friends dad took good care of it & since I bought it I'm very vigilant on preventive maintenance. No matter what car I've owned preventive maintenance is the key to making any vehicle last. My transmission is a closed transmission, meaning no district to check fluids & only serviced by Ford dealerships in my town. No other transmission shop would touch it. At over 200,000 miles I had mine serviced just to be sure it was taken care of since I had no idea if any previous owners had done it. It had about 145,000 miles when I bought it for $2500, when it blue booked at 3500 to 4500. And it's ran perfect since I bought it. My advice if your fuel economy is low, change the mass airflow sensor. It used to only get 13 to 17 mpg. Since changing that sensor my gas mileage is 27 to 32mpg hwy. As I said, preventive maintenance is worth its weight in gold. I've had everything checked, serviced & changed since I bought it & the only thing I'm having trouble with is the roll stability control sensors. The alarm keeps going off if turning sharp around curves too fast, brake to hard or sometimes idling in a fast food restaurant drive thru line. I haven't been able to locate the faulty sensor & the cost to have a mechanic check them is outside my budget. Anything I can do myself, I do. But the Service RSC alarm is giving me fits. It's done it since 2 weeks after I purchased it. I've watched countless videos on it & still can't find the problem sensor. Any advice I'd welcome. Other than that I love my SUV, it's never failed or disappointed me in anyway. Best Ford I've ever owned & Im a Chevy girl. LOL
