- 2004 Eddie Bauer
Just picked up my new ride, a black 2004 Eddie Bauer with the 4.0 SOHC V6 with FFV option. The flex-fuel option was one of the primary reasons I bought this vehicle. I had a Dodge Durango that served me well, but went thru unleaded like Rosie O'Donnel in a Krispy Kreme!
Here by me, E85 is only $1.999/gallon, compared to the current price of 87 octane which is $2.879.
I've only put about 80 miles on it so far today, but I'm loving every bit of it! Ride quality is far and away better than the Durango, and power is very good too. The transmission is nothing short of bizarre...It feels very "busy" having to upshift thru 5 forward gears, and the torque management system tends to make it feel as if it's almost stalling for the split second it takes the tranny to complete the shift. I'm sure I'll get used to it in time, but I'm still in the adapting process yet.
This is the first Ford product I've owned in over 12 years. My last one was an '88 Bronco II Eddie Bauer. Very good vehicle, but someone offered me stupid money for it, so I had to sell it or kick myself for not doing so. Since then I've primarily owned Chrysler products, including a total of 5 Jeeps, and they were also decent.
Since this Explorer is so ridiculously loaded, there's little left that I'd want except for the Sirius satellite radio kit, which will probably happen in the next couple weeks. I already have the Audiophile head unit, so it's a simple plug-and-play operation. Drilling a hole in the roof makes me a bit nervous, but I want a factory looking install, so that's the way it's going to be. (BTW, where on the roof is the antenna located? In back, the middle, the front? Never seen a Gen III with one yet to see where it's mounted.)
I don't plan on doing anything really radical as it's going to be nothing but a pavement pounder. I'm not much of a "car" person...I've always liked trucks and SUVs much better.
I'm sure you'll see plenty of me lurking around the various forums.
Thanks for having me!
