Hi all

I am new to this forum and would appriciate some advice regarding my current Explorer problem.

On two occassions in the last 3 months my 1999 explorer has slipped out of reverse... Now i have intermitant forward and reverse drive. This occured 2 miles from a cold start and i heard a rasping noise at which point i lost forward drive. Having pulled over to check the fluid level which was ok.. i pulled off again with full power until i reached a higher gear and again i lost drive.

I managed to get the vehicle towed home where its now sat and i'm scratching my head.

Appriciate if anyone has any pointers or assuptions as to the severity of the issue?

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the transmission section. How many miles does it have? When was the last time the fluid & filter were replaced? Do you have a 0-300 PSI pressure tester? If so, then check the main pressure, and the EPC pressure.

Thanks for your response and post relocation.
The Explorer has clocked up 135k miles and the last fluid and filter change was 2yrs ago @112k miles. I dont have a PSi tester but can get one to run the tests you suggest.

Kind Regards
Ashley
