I love your site! I'm about to purchase my first Ford ('02 Explorer XLT) and I have a question about some of the options that my dream vehicle has. And mostly how to tell if it does.

Advancetrac: I know that later in the model year the '02 got rollover sensors and Advancetrac, but how can I tell if mine has it? Should there be a button or an idiot light that flashes when the key is turned on? Or can I know because it has rear discs or some other option? Or can I decode the VIN to know?

It's really important that I have it (or so I think) because I have little kids and this is going to be my first SUV. I'm so excited about my new truck and have such high hopes that it has and is everything that I want and so much more. It seems like my new truck has EVERY OPTION, but because this particular one wasn't available until later in the model year, I'm worried that it doesn't.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

G'day :)

Is the 2002 you're looking at from a dealer? If so, make sure you know the transmission service history, as well as the rear differential and rear wheel dearing history- they were fairly common bad issues on the 2002's as it was the first year of the new body style...

Thanks everyone! I did end up buying it (from a private party) and will go through the records to find out about those critical issues. Now for my next question... Maybe I should start a new thread, but where should I look for a replacement second row seat? I want one with latch for my carseats, which wasn't available on my '02. Small change but important for my kids.

Thanks!

might try www.car-part.com or ebay will be your best bets.

note on ebay- when recyclers list them, lots of time now they list them with a picture of the vehicle, not just the part. Even if the part you're looking for isn't the one for sale in the auction, you can ask them a question, then ask if the seat is available.

Congrats on your purchase!
