Ok so i just registered and it wont let me post anywhere but here so i guess il just ask my qustion here. My mom has a 1999 ford explorer xlt 4.0. The thing ran good and everything up until this morning where it would not start. Its got power but does not crank. We took the battery and went and got it tested at autozone where they told us it didnt pass and its no longer good. So in the meantime we use the battery of some 80s chevy 4 door car whose battery is less than 6 months old and again power but does not crank just the usual clicking. The car didnt come with a manual but it does come with the instruction hand book for the alarm sysmtem where is states that the system might disingaged the starter if the battery is low and states to press the emergency override button if changing the battery afterwards to start the truck. My question is, where could the button be located? Im sure it varies per truck but i doubt that there isnt several trucks out there with the button in the exact location where the one for this truck should be. Anywhere specific where it could be or the most common locations for it? Thanks for any help.

The clicking noise that you hear.... is it coming from the starter or the solenoid on the fender/firewall?

Also i was reading under the hook that if the truck dont start one would have to press the fuel pump shut of swith. I cant find it either. Any help would be greatly appreciated:)

override button makes it sound like a non-OEM alarm. There are a lot of people who are having similar problems with them. The override button is usually located under the steering wheel somewhere, as it isn't stock they could have mounted it just about anywhere.

Years ago on my old explorer I had this problem and it was the starter. I'm not saying that your starter is bad because it is kind of an expensive place to start. I rebuit mine and cleaned it out real good with electric motor spray. The rebuild kit was about $30.

It seems to me that if you had a alarm related issue you wouldn't get any clicking. Also don't tap on the starter to get it to work or you'll knock the magnets loose inside making it un-rebuildable. Don't put it in a vice either. Most importantly if you forget disconnect the battery YOU WILL KNOW IT.

I hope this saves you some time, money, and frustration.:navajo:
