Hi everyone, I was hoping I could find a web site devoted to the Explorer and here you are; Cool! I just traded my 99 stang for an 01 sport; needed the extra room for kids; and I couln't passs up the 2.9% and great price. so heres my question has anyone here had experience installing an aftermarket Keyless entry system; for existing power locks; on an Explorer, where to get wiring diagram, pitfalls, etc.? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. the next question, is it worth converting to a True Dual exhaust with Crossover/H-pipe/balance tube? Next; how many of you think that the K&N filter is worth cost? The Mustang had a noticable difference in power and fuel eco. after the switch. and what do you guys think of the 4.0 SOHC; like it / hate it? me personally I like push rod engines; a hell of alot eaiser to work on.

thanks
Lee.

Welcome!

Lee,

This is the BEST explorer site, bar none. You will learn everything you ever want to know about Ex's here. But beware, you will get the modification bug if you read too many posts...it gets expensive!

1. The SOHC is a great engine, IMHO. Besides that nasty tensioner chain problem on the early ones, I believe nobody here has had any serious problems with it. Unless you tow a lot or are a power freak, it is my fave engine for the Ex.

2. The K&N filter (or the KKM I have, which is essential the same thing made by a Ford-only co.) will help the SOHC engine some, but don't expect a huge kick in the pants. I've had mine for a while and get modest (1-2 MPG) mileage increase. I drive in the Rocky Mtns a lot on vacations, and definitely feel performance gain going up hills at high altitude. Probably is best in combo with high flow exhaust system (easier air in, easier exhaust out).

3. I have stock exhaust, so I'm no help here. I believe you will have some issues with the spare tire interfering with the dual exhaust. Use the "search" function to find lots of posts on this subject.

4. Again, I have keyless entry on my XLT, so I'd suggest a search on this topic or wait for someone else to post here.

JB
