Hello Everyone,

I've been registered here for a while, but I don't have an explorer yet, and am looking to buy. What is a good price for a first gen in decent shape? I'm fairly mechanically inclined and am willing to put some work into it. There is one for sale local for $400, has some problems though, he says it needs a starter and transmission solenoid. How involved is the solenoid? He says it's an easy fix on the outside of the transmission. Thanks in advance for the advice, hopefully I'll have an ex soon!

That jeep is off the hook! Get a manual tranny sport if you don't want tranny issues. You seem pretty mechanicaly inclined and could probaly rebuild a auto tranny. $400 if it's not ratted out. Body is good. Tires are ok. You're probably looking at 800-1500 for a tranny if you need one. Factor in all you have to fix to make it run.

Well I picked up my first gen explorer tonight, 1993 XLT 2WD for $900, let the modifications begin!
