Hello all,
I am the proud owner of a new 2012 Explorer Limited and I am really excited about making it my own customized chariot!
I have added a few things like mats, bumper and hood protectors, mud flaps and nerf bars.
I am trying to get some ideas on how to light the rear interior of the vehicle.
There are some vents at the bottom of the rear cargo area and also at the feet of the second row. Can these be converted into convenience lighting?

Welcome to the Forum Fooser. :wavey:
I assume the cargo vents you are talking about are located in the well behind the 3rd row seats? I keep the 3rd row folded and have the cargo mat on top of them and did not see any vents. The only foot level vents I see for the second row are located under the front seats and they are for heating. Keep in mind that I have a 2011 Limited.

The "vents" I am referring to are actually located beside left foot of the third row drivers side seat and also there are two sets on the left and right of the lower rear cargo area. The cargo area "vents" would be covered when the third row is stowed.
Are these functioning vents?
I am trying to get a little more ambient lighting or courtesy lighting around the car!!

That is why I don't see the vents you are referring to since my 3rd row is alway folded. I would guess that these could be heating vents or part of the circulation system.
Also from what I've been told, the roof mounted light in the cargo area is apparently soldered in. I was informed of that when I suggested replacing it with an LED bulb to a member who was looking for more light back there.

FYI, when I was in at my dealership a while ago, I saw a kit that allows you to replace the EXPLORER scuff plate on the front door sill with one that is illuminated. Not sure what the price was.
