I haven't been around here much lately. I had a few surgeries and was laid out and haven't been working on my truck. But I thought I'd post a thread on a few of the little things that i did a few months ago. The first is a new piece for my center console. If you had seen any of my old threads you'd know I installed a '95 center console in my '92. Old thread http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47283&highlight=center+console Well a few months ago i finally finished it with all the things I wanted. The gauge is for the tranny temp and matches the other gauges I put in the dash in the second picture. (These are an old mod but related.) The I put a fiberglass step un my tailgate. It helps me get on the roof to organize gear. I used to step on the glass hatch handle and I knew this wasn't going to last long. I also removed the Explorer tag and changed to Prospector from an old Dodge. My wife and I like to run old mining trails.

I like that step, too. You should do a "how to' write-up on it.

Not really much of a write-up. It's a fiberglass step that I formed over a silicone plug I made. (picture of a rough one below.) I got the idea from old pick-up trucks that I had seen with aluminum steps inserted in the side. I've also seen then on RV's for the driver's door. But they were too big. I couldn't find any of the small ones at the pick and pull so I made my own. Then I cut a hole in the body to accept it. This one was sprayed with a textured paint to prevent slipping. I also want to install one on either side above and in front of the rear wheel well at the same height as the back door handles. Then I can stand on the tire and then the step to manage the loads on the roof.
