We just purchased a used 2014 Explorer Limited. Love it so far! It has the adaptive cruise control which seems to work fine. I do not think that the collision avoidance feature is working though. I have tried it on 3 different sensitivity levels and have never seen the light come on or any alarms except when the engine starts. How can I test it (safely) to see if it is working?

Welcome to the forum, hatris; congrats on getting an Explorer! I recommend making an appointment at your dealership so they can take a look. How many miles are on it currently? I'll do what I can to help as well.

I've got a 2015 Ford Explorer Limited and the Collision Avoidance system in not working just as the above customer indicated. Mine is in the shop being worked on. However, the dealership has never seen this problem and their test drive found it not working as it should. Any clues on adjustments to the radar? We have tried all the sensitivity settings to no avail.

I have a 2013 Limited and mine also does not seem to be working correctly. Had in the shop and was told that the rear camera needed to be replaced and then they could adjust the collision system. Camera was replace and the collision system still seems to not work right. I do get alerts but usually it is only when someone is turning right or left, never when the car is in front of me. I try to make it alert but i have to slam the breaks to avoid collision before the alert appears.

Welcome to the Forum.:wavey:
I have no idea why the rearview camera would be involved in this issue. To my knowledge it is a 'stand alone' system and isn't even integrated with the rear sensors. Have you checked the sensitivity settings? Is the area in front of the radar unit clear of debris and obstructions? The fact that it alerts to some situations seems to me that it is an indication that it is working. At least to some degree.

I've never had a collision avoidance system failure on any car I've ever owned since 1977.

Need a cardboard cut out the size of a car. Doesn't have to move. If i take a curve fast and there is a tree near the road at the apex it thinks I'm gonna hit it and alarms.

I am not sure either, only going by what dealer said. Technician said they could not adjust collision settings because the rear camera was bad. After replacing the rear camera, which is working as it should now, they said the collision system was ok.

I get that sometimes also, just doesn't alert when it is supposed to when approaching a car in front of me.

Collision detection system is useful for someone that is new to driving or does not have enough experience or is getting sleepy under the wheel. For me personally, this option is useless here in NY, It would just keep beeping and warning every minute. Especially in a Sport model where you at times would love to maneuver around traffic and just enjoy the acceleration and passing. This option might be good to some, but I find myself not turning it on at all as I want to experience the car manually as I always have. I always get that feeling that if I am behind the wheel, I have that 100% control and I always watch the distance of the car in front of me.
