1995 Explorer XLT 4WD
Hello and thank you for the add. This is our first Explorer and we are excited to have found this time capsule with only 27k actual miles. We made the purchase decision in less than 30 minutes after it appeared on Facebook marketplace at $2800 and wasn’t even looking at buying a vehicle when it popped up in my feed. It was purchased from the son of the 100 and 102 year old original owners who bought it in the Central California Bay Area. He had taken ownership of it last fall but it hadn’t left his parents house till three days before we bought it. The couple bought at age 70 and 72 to drive back and forth to Colorado each year to their vacation home and the majority of the miles were driven there over the first 10 years until they sold the home in Colorado. The back seats have never been sat in. After an oil change and checkup at the Ford dealer it had been serviced at all its life and a new set of tires it was driven 600 miles to Southern California. It passed CA smog with flying colors. First up is brake bleeding, new fluids, belt and hoses. I’ve ordered new brake pads and rotors as the originals were getting pretty low.
While new to Explorers we owned a 1997 Expedition for 4 years and still own our 2001 lifted 4WD Excursion Limited. My wife and I actually test drove a new 1995 Explorer Eddie Bauer 4wd but we ended up buying a 1995 Toyota 4Runner as my wife thought it looked more rugged since it set higher even though it didn’t have as much room nor was it as plush.
I’m not really sure what the plan is for this one yet but initially it will probably get its windows tinted and a 1 1/2 inch TT and shackle lift as my wife thinks this one sits too low. I would probably go up to a 31inch tire eventually but it has brand new 235/75/15 cheaper AT tires that were put on 2 days before we bought it. It needs a few cosmetics like the black door pillar and the rear pillars repainted as they are faded but those are minor issues. I look forward to researching and asking questions. Thank you.
