first of all i love this site second i have a 99 ford explorer xlt it has the 4.0 not sure if its sohc or not im pretty sure it is it has the automatic transmission in it. My question, sometimes only when im running the AC and i stop at a light or a parking lot when i go to move again it slips very minor just for a second then its fine and it doesnt do it all the time. It seems to do it more when ive been running it alot and doing alot of stops and then going again, is it my overdrive going out or could i be heating the fluid up it only has 47000 miles on it and the fluid was changed about 42000.

Second question the engine has a slight ticking noise when its at idle or when its in gear ive read the threads on here and i think its just the chain tensioner i put some oil additive to maybe release a sticky lifter but it didnt change im thinking its one of those noises that will always be there and just turn up the radio a little bit i have more questions as well but ill wait and post them later any help would be greatly appreciated thank you :chug:

Welcome to the site. You may or may not have the SOHC motor. If your motor looks like the picture listed below, then you have the OHV motor. If it doesn't look like it, I would highly suggest calling up your local Ford dealer and ask them if the OOM12 recall was performed on your truck.. They can enter in your VIN # and tell you if it was or wasn't. Not sure about your tranny, that is definately not normal, whats the condition of the transmission fluid?

thanks for the welcome it looks exactly like the pic and it doesnt say sohc on the motor so im pretty sure its the ohv engine. How much of a factor does the weight of oil play on engine noise the place that services my explorer puts 10-30 in it i noticed that it says to put 5-30 in it will changing the weight of oil improve the noise am i being paranoid about the noise
