I have a '91 4x4 auto w/AC. What is the likelihood my vehicle was originally equipped with a HD radiator? What's a good aftermarket cooler for use with a HD radiator? I'd like to get something that's easy to install.

Thanks.

Very likely since you have the AC. Usually it's a double coil rad, so you should be able to measure the width of the old one to see if the new one is correct. As far fluid, there are tons of posts for what to use, I perfer green stuff that works ok & is pocket friendly.

Ok. So, what do you think about an auxiliary cooler for the transmission?

If your towing, it might be a good idea. But if your just tooling around I would not waste your time or effort. Explorers are pretty good with getting around & don't need extra cooling unless you 1. have a major issue or 2. are hauling 3 tons somewhere on a daily basis.

Are you sure that you don't already have a tranny cooler? My 94 came with one from the factory, not sure when they started doing that or if it was an option.

With all the known issues with the A4LD, I would DEFINITELY put a cooler on it, regardless of your usage. The bigger, the better. There really is no downside, they are really easy to install, and heat is the #1 enemy of auto trannys.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Mike
