My Ford dealer replaced my front rotors a couple of months ago in attemps to fix and "clunking noise" from under my truck. Saying that they were reaching would be a understatement. They don't know crap. Anyways my truck has developed the jitters under breaking. This is definately most noticable at highway speeds. I believe my rotors are warped somehow. I don't drive hard or have not hit any deep puddles while driving. They must of really tightened then lug nuts. Just wondering if anyone have had a problem with new rotors getting warped after a few months.
Them morons...my truck was stopping fine before with my original rotors.

Questions is should I go ahead and replace them since they are new and warped already or machine them?

Thanks :us:

I just went thru a similar deal with my Expedition. My problem was pulsation in the brakes. The truck had the issue from day one. I told them I felt they should install new rotors on the truck since it was new, but they insisted on machining them. Finally, after machining them four times they replaced them and now everything seems cool.. The point I'm attempting to make is that if you take it in to have them repair the problem under warranty they will almost certainly machine them.

Good Luck

AH! The old new rotors 2-3 months later warped problem. Yup, this happens when the wheel lugs are not properly torqued.

Thanks for the feedback guys...

Freaken Ford guys....#%*&#$^#%@ fu(k3r$ .. Now I have to waste more time to go get a problem they created fixed...

Maybe I can just buy them online..instead of a headache with the dealer.

yup worked in the repair industry for years... this happens all to frequently when idiot techs just slam everything together with the impacts......

Your calipers could be hanging a little bit too. The caliper slide pins are supposed to be relubed during a brake job, I've yet to see a single Ford Tech do it.

How does this happen? I'm curious.

When you don't properly torque each wheel lug to the same ft. lbs. and proper torque sequence there is uneven pull on each wheel stud... Then after a few good drives and heating and cooling of the rotors the uneven pulling on each wheel stud causes the rotor to warp...ie causing a pulsing brake pedal and/or shimmy while breaking.

I NEVER let anyone use an impact wrench on my rims EVER ... in fact I usually get them to snug them up and let ME tighten them myself with a 4-way (I've never had a problem with a warped rotor, a tire falling off or being able to get a tire off agains when needed) .... I've done this for over twenty years after I spent hours trying to get a tire off a 3/4 ton ford work truck on a gravel road ... we eventually borrowed a 4 way for a semi and I had a 300 pound friend stomp on it while I held the middle of the 4 way .... it literally tristed the 4 way and I'm still surprised we didn't twist the lugs off the rotor ...

friggin lazy idiots ..... and people wonder why I do everything short of an automatic tranny rebuild myself

Maybe I better break the front lugs lose and retighten them on the '91 I bought a couple of weeks ago before I find out the hard way some idiot screwed up ...

I was reading a few months back where Chevy now says to only turn a rotor if it's grooved over an 1/8" deep and then only once ... their claim is most warped rotors on their vehicles are caused by unnecessary turning when pads are changed ... personally I've never let my pads get that far gone as they are cheap and can be done yourself n a couple of hours tops ...

My experience with stock for rotors is they generally suck.Went thru oem in 20K.Warped, pads shot. Replaced with cross drilled and slotted Bendex rotors Went 80k with those, replaced with powerslot got 40k on those so far.

Actually
Most tire shops use TQ set impact wrenchs today, but they do over TQ your lugs by at least 20 lbs for liability reasons, knowing full well that you will not ck them after 20 miles ( ck the fine print in you tire purchase contract)
Had my tires rotated 2 days ago, as **** as it is,loosend and re-TQ all to 90 lbs, with a real TQ wrench

I am going to pull them rotors Saturday coming and get them machined. I will defiantely lube them pins. I don't think I have a hung up caliper the truck will roll easily when in Neutral, even after long drives. That was one of my first thoughts. But to make sure this weekend I will do a thorough inspection.

That is the last time I let my wheel lugs go unchecked.

...yes, and failure to lube pins is a fast way to get warped rotors.

Another problem that was touched on in this thread is the quality of rotors...
I'm beginning to wonder what kind of steel they are putting in them these days, is it Chinese import steel which is nothing more than recycled 1950's U.S. razor blades?
