I have a '95, 4 door, 4x4, xlt explorer. Its almost to 100,000 miles, and my stock shocks have about had it. I was wanting to replace them. My first question is does my explorer have shocks on all four corners, or struts up front, or what? What kind of shocks do you suggest I get...stock shocks will suit me fine, unless I can get something better for the same price? And how much will it all cost? Price for shocks/struts and installation?

4 shocks, but they're different front/back.

Gabriel VSTs, $15-20 each and Pepboys will often install them for free, or you can do it yourself.

I just installed Monroe Sensa-tracs. They seem to do at least as good as stock. I believe they were about $30 ea.

I HIGHLY recommend these. I have them and they are stiffer than stock, but not too stiff. I installed myself w/ no experience. It was easy to me. So whatever you want to do.

I just installed the Gabriels 2 weeks ago with no problems. I had 100,000 miles on the originals. The new ones are definately stiffer.

I want to get a set of VST's for mine. I ran into problems though. The guy at the auto parts store said they didn't have them for my explorer with a 2" lift. Does anyone know if that have them? What part number?

I've heard nothing but good things about the VST's.

I've had the gabriels for about five months or so, but these miami roads have not been kind. They're not holding up too well. heh.

You can use stock length Gabriels with 2" of lift, but you will have slightly limited down travel.

Yeah I have stock lenth monroe gas magnum plus's on it now. But they are dead (when doing the rear aal and had the shock removed I could compress them by hand). So i'm proablby going to go with hecklethorns as they are pretty economical. I dont' know...alittle after christmas I might find some deals. THanks!
