ok heres a thought on the topic of drilling out th airbox......the stock computer/chip is set for the amount of air that comes into the system through the original hole in the airbox....so would it cause a problem, like having the engine seize up or running too lean at high rpm's by cuttin holes ???..just wondering....if anyone has encountered problems with driling let me know....

And as far as your computer, to see the improvement right away, you should remove the battery cable, to reset the computer. After a few minutes at idle your computer will have relearned itself. Your engine will now breathe much easier.

thanks for the help guys....i was pretty sure it wouldnt affect it in a bad way by drilling, but i got into an argument today at school with some guy who claims it would seize up??...but thanks again

I cut off the inlet tube that brings the air from the bottom of the engine bay to the airbox. I had already drilled it but figure what the heck. I also put a screen around the box and the holes to keep leaves and other objects from entering the holes.

Here's the scoop.

Drilling holes in your air box does not allow more air into the engine rather, it allows the air to enter more easily. More accurately, it allows the engine to suck the air in more easily. Thereby increasing performance by reducing strain on the engine. The same difference would apply to the exhaust. Its not that a free flow exhaust allows more air through as much as it allows the air to pass more freely. So, even if you completely remove the air filter (and I don't recommend you do that) your engine will still use the same amount of air as if you had a filter. It would simply just get the air it needed with less effort.
