New Tires?

Our 2006 EB V8 now has about 45k on it. Original BF Goodrich tires still look okay. I'll probably replace at 60k.

I'm wondering what others have put on as replacements? I'm not interested in bigger rims, etc. I might plus size the tires, but that's it.

So, let's hear it -- what have you put on???

My OEM's didn't made it to 40k. I replaced them with a set of Toyo Proxes S/T. 275/60/17. They look nice and handle well. Dont have any complaints.

I just bought a used 06 xlt4x4 and i had a lot of troulble in mud and snow with the stock tires so i swiched to Goodyear wrangler All terrain silent armors and i love them super quiet and fantastic tracktion in mud, dirt, snow and wet/dry street

I still have the stock size of 235/70/16
look at tire rack they have alot of reviews and opinions on several tires that will fit the explorer

I loved the BFG Lontrail TA's on my '96. Great snow handling, just a bit more dry road noise.

i just got a set of the wrangler sa's too, they look awesome are a little bit rougher than the stock ride but I like that. Did well in the snow this last week with all the snow in so cal but did slip a little in the the deep slush.

It's time

I'm at 58k and am about to put 4k on it in the next month. Too boot, winter is coming in Chicago, so I might as well do it before the trip.

I have the stock 17" rims that came with the EB package. I'm not sure what the size is without walking to the garage and checking.

What can I get away with and still maintain a reasonable speedo reading, gas mileage, etc.? Would love to get something that looks a bit more substantial on the rim.

I'm sensative to road noise and vibrations. I sware I have a VERY hard time finding someone that can balance tires that run smooth to 80mph. I've gone back up to 8 times before it's "right." Sigh...

So, any suggestions?

I ended up replacing the tires with exactly what came with it when new. Discount Tire sold them to me for $724, installed, with free lifetime balance and rotations. I went to Firestone and got a lifetime alignment for $149.00. Haven't driven it much, but seemed fine so far.

I am running the same tire, the goodyear wrangler, and i saw no mileage change, the only complaint i have as of now (1 year, 3 months 20,000 + miles later) is they werent free when i first got them/

Slight decrease in mileage is expected when going from a highway type treaded tire to an aggressive tread design. Not a flaw in the tire but the nature of the beast. I would not go back to the Michelins if you gave me a brand new set of 5. The truck finally handles the snow the way it should. My '98 with AWD and Wrangler AT/S did better in the snow than my '06 with Michelins and all the computers the truck has.
