New tires?

I just bought a set a of Goodyear Assurance Tripletred. They were quite expensive let me tell you...About $940 out the door but I also received $160 bucks in rebates, so I thought it was a fair deal.

I also talked to the previous servicing dealer and they said the last owner was kind of a knob and was trying to get buy on cheap tires and ended up blowing through a transfer case, so I immediately felt the need to get some really good tires on it.

Now, I have not seen anyone mention this tire in this thread yet, but I have put about 1000 miles on them and they are quite nice. I think one might be out of balance but I am going to have Goodyear look at it and I am sure they can figure it out.

Excited to see how they handle in winter and on snow packed fire trails.

I bought Firestone Destination LE's for my '99 and my old '08. Loved 'em, no complaints

I have an update on tires I have driven both sets over the last week
I like the bfg long trail over the michelin latitude tour hp.
they are both a quite tire. but the bfg's the emergency steering feels way more controllable and tighter. plus the look of the tire is also better and the price was better. looks like the michelin loses!

I've noticed some people (not you) equate more expensive tires as being better or safer, and this just proves that isn't always true.

How would cheap tires blow a transfer case ? Unles he used different sizes all around ? Sounds BS to me from the dealer. I did 60k miles on cheap Khumos that I paid 500 bucks, 40k on original Michellins, and now about 42k on Bridgestones.

Khumos were the cheapes and lasted the longest, go figure.

I think the issue was that she was trying to get by on used tires that were not the same size all around the truck.

So, the size being the issue, not the price. Sorry for the confusion.

I was looking at the specs for the 255/55/18 the diameter is an inch smaller than the 235/65/18. If you can post some pics I bet it will look sharp, and let us know how many mph the spedo is off.

I put 255/55/18 toyo ht's on my 2006 limited. They look sweet, fill out the genders perfectly. Handles a lot better also. Haven't noticed the speedo being much off, haven't put the gps on it to check it to make sure yet

Man I would love to get new tires but the Dueler H/Ts that were put on new before I bought the car with 22k miles just won't die at about 36k miles on them now. Plenty of tread left, though the fronts have uneven wear due to never having rotated them. Looking forward to getting some Destination LEs or Long Trail T/As in a year or so. Or maybe Dueler H/L Alenzas if they're on sale at the time.
