New to DIY, got some things on the ol' Explorer Sport to fix.

Hey guys

New to this forum, I got a Ford Explorer Sport 2001 with some issues. I have a "Check Gauge" light on, and about half of my tachometer has no background green lighting, meaning that at nighttime driving, I can't see how much gas I have left, my RPM's, or my speed below 40 mph :.

Ya guys have any idea as how I should fix this? My dad is an engineer (used to work at Ford and on this car) and he wants me to fix it on my own, so do you guys know of any resources I can use? I'm 17 years old and I love cars, but I got little experience with actually tinkering with them. This is more or less my first thing I'll be trying to fix with the car, sicne I imagine it must be pretty simple. Thanks.

Welcome. Read this link, it will tell you how to remove the guage cluster.

If I remember right we have 6 bulbs total, bulb is a 194. It is a pain, but worth it. Also the search feature is you friend. As for the CEL, pull the code and let us know what it is and we will help.
