Given my wife now drives a Mazda 3 I've inherited a 2008 Explorer, 4.0L.
Got her from a local dealer with 7,800 on the clock (former Ford Exec wife's vehicle) about a year and half ago. Great deal, still smelled new and is in perfect condition today with ~30,000. So, my questions are:
1) Been doing some research and noted there are several versions of the 4.0L engine, so how can I determine which version I have, this vehicle has a serious tow package which I can atest to given the stiff ride?
2) If I want to improve upon the tune, which hand held tuner is best for these vehicles?
I have 2004 GTO and I use a Diablo hand held tuner which allows for modifications to a pre-installed performance tune. I say that because I beleive the PCM re-learns and makes all the necessary adjustments through all the cellls controlling the various parameters and one does not need the software to specifically adjust cells unless you've added a larger cam or made other major modifications to the engine.
