new to fords need transmission advice

I have just bought another explorer a 2000 explorer xls 2wd180k with a 5r55e and I've heard they have problems I want to get it serviced but everyone tells me not to this is my first automatic this truck is all original like plugs wires the only thing new is the tires im going to do a tune up this week but I just need information on the tranny service. What do kneed to do I don't want it to mess up

There's a ton of debate on whether or not to replace old transmission fluid or not. Everyone seems to agree that you definitely shouldn't flush a transmission with high mileage fluid- but a fluid swap should be OK.
