Hey everyone, just picked up this ride about a week ago and discovered that on top of having a 6 disc changer in dash, that it has a subwoofer too! It is located in the rear passenger side molding, maybe a foot behind the back seat (no 3rd row seat). I was wondering if anyone knew if this was an 8" sub? 6.5" sub? Also what is the available mounting depth of the sub enclosure? Just curious cause I would like to toss in a JL sub in its place, maybe with a small amp. I think it would sound pretty darn good considering I am impressed with the factory sound...

Thanks for any input.

Can't find anything as to the size on the sub through Google, or I just didn't look hard enough. Think you could grab a picture of the enclosure and what not? Or.. someone just may know this. Either way, on FordVehicles.com it mentioned a "290W Audiophile", and it does have a Factory amp (obviously), but if you plan on replacing with a JL, definate new amp to go with it, not sure it'll fit (their specs aren't as lenient). With keeping the stock headunit up front, you'll have to get a low pass/high pass converter by hacking into one of your rear speakers for the sound. Most people just end up getting new headunits, but since you love yours, this may be what you do. Some say it doesn't sound as good, I really don't know, but nothing really can compare to the preouts on aftermarket equipment.. so I see where the logic comes in.

Your stock Ford sub is an 8.0" unit (see the "Sticky" at the top of the Audio Forum labeled: "Quick Reference For Audio Forum").

Most of the general specs for the Ford factory systems are listed there.

Ok that confirms my thoughts then, thanks for the reference. Now, does anybody know how that panel in the right rear cargo area comes off to access the subwoofer?
It looks like there is a tab on the top and a tab on the bottom, but when I release those tabs, it still seems pretty secure (I am talking about the panel that is attached to the actual side panel of the wall. Almost as if there is a panel ontop of another panel giving access to the sub).

Thanks again for the info.

to access it you have to take the entire panel off which means getting a star key and undoing the second row seat belt bold, taking off the rear upper quater panel and the top panel and the lower panel, (those pull straight off) then you have to pull that entire panel off...i just put my fingers where the top of the window was and started pulling,, i don't remember taking any screws out whatsoever, oh and i do believe you willl have to pull off the middle upper quarter panel because it overlaps that big panel....
