Well, first off, I am a long time GM owner, but don't hold that against me, as I appreciate all vehicles. Which leads me to why i am here. I just bought a 95 Explorer off a friend because the starter wasn't working. I had done the fuel pump for him a couple weeks before this, and now this happened. he called me up and said I could buy it, or he's calling the junkyard cause he needs it gone. $150 later, I had the title, and 1 tow later, it is now at my house.

Anyways, you guys probably like pictures, so here are some pictures of it before I got it.

Hopefully people can help out in my Starter replacement thread in the stock forum with help on the best technique for removing it and replacing it/checking the flexplate.

Thanks

Thanks. I plan on getting into it and begin getting it cleaned up tonight. Hoping to get the starter off so I can get it tested and check the flexplate for damage. Also might pick up a gasket for the trans pan, as it looks like it might be leaking

Well, a quick stop at the junkyard netted me 2 starters, a starter replay, two spark plug wires (one was bad) and the knowledge that the door handles are riveted on. Also found a truck with the trans out, and an easily accessible flexplate should mine prove to be toast.

Looks like tonight I will be under the truck working, and if all goes well, I might have it running tonight.

welcome

Welcome! Looks like you got a lotta bang for $150! Good luck on the repairs!

 That is one hell of a deal!!!

Ok, so i tried to get the starter out last night after having them checked out at Autozone. I could not get to the top bolt of the starter for the life of me. I didn't, however, remove the front wheel and try through the wheel well cause I was a bit limited on time, but will hopefully be able to try that tonight.

Are there any suggestions or tips at getting that bolt out?
