My name is Harry, been working on cars (mechanics in general) most of my life.
Father was heavy equipment mechanic (FoMoCo), older brother was auto body repair (also built & raced dirt track and strip).
I own and maintain a 1991 Cad. Allante (18yrs.) and just recently purchased a 2008 Explorer. I have owned 3 rangers (88, 01, 03) and just sold a 89 grand marquis. I do not allow anyone to work on my vehicles unless absolutely necessary.

Harry, welcome to the forum. I too do most of all the repairs on our vehicles, unless it requires a lift.

Welcome to this forum! The only time I have to go to a repair shop is when I need an inspection once a year or if I need a tire. I've encountered a few shops which did damage during an inspection, and while replacing tires, so I avoid using shops whenever possible as well.

Thanks gentlemen, for the welcome.

I don't do this sort of thing normally, but do find the internet a wealth of information. Been retired nearly 10 yrs. and like hearing common sense answers to common questions. I may have solutions to contribute from time to time, as well as looking for solutions for my own challenges. My father had me under and around cars since I was 5 yrs old. I help my family and friends with their autos, computers, and home repairs. Was a carpenter for 18 yrs, locomotive engineer for 25 yrs. as well as several other mechanical crafts.
