Hello All...I am now the proud owner of a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport....its used, but new to me. So far I really enjoy the truck. I am hoping some of you can give me some tips for this SUV. I am a SUV virgin...LOL

should I be suing a high octaine gas, like premium???

also, do I want the over drive on when doing basic driving??? I m not sure the function of over drive and am not sure if it should be on or off.

this may sound silly to you all, but I am a newbie....I would like to properly maintain this fine veichle. Any tips would be greatly appericated.

thank you in advance

nope regular is fine. I leave mine in overdrive all the time but alot of people like to turn it off while doing city driving. If your planning on going over 40mph turn it back on. Since you bought the vehicle new service the front and rear axles, transfer case, transmission, flush the coolant ext. Get all new fluids. That way you know everything is good to go!

thanks 99ex22 :)

i would love to get my hands on an owners manual for this truck. any idea how i may do so?

That link. It will give you a free PDF of your original manual. Or, if you want a book, you can go on ebay.

Really nice looking truck, Sam. Have you had it since new?

I was driving it last night....now mind you I am not familar with SUV's...never had one. anyway, i can feel every bump, every pot hole amplified. is it becasue I am not in 4WD? when Im driving the streets of Gravesend Bklyn NYC (Thats for you BrooklynBay ;) )what should I be in? 2WD or 4WD?
Thanks to 99ex22, Now I know if im going over 40 mph to go into overdrive :salute:

but what situtation calls for 2WD/4WD? I think 4WD is in the snow and if Im pulling something but I am not sure. Is it normal to have such a bumpy ride with a SUV?

Thanks Enthusiasts :D

Yes- it's not a Lincoln... :)

4WD- snow, bad mud, wheeling... Not for towing. Sometimes I'll click mine on if I'm coming up a steep, wet boat ramp, but usually not.

If it's dry and not slippery- leave the 4WD off.

Your OD will not come on unless it's needed, there really isn't much need to switch back and forth. I used to do that, but gave up since I forgot a few times and was screaming at 3k on the highway. Sometimes debatable, but towing in hilly terrain it should be off. It'll go over those things in the manual when you have a chance to pick one up or download it...

Enjoy your Ex!
