New VCG install, gasket sticking out of the side. Is this OK?

Had a guy do a VCG install.
There's enough cork valve cover gasket sticking outside the valve cover that I could reach down in there with my thumb and forefinger and break a piece off. It's like this in a couple places, on both sides.

Is this OK for cork gaskets or was this an error/carelessness?

You might have it too tight. Cork will squish out if you get it too tight.

How did the gasket fit the cover before you put it all together? Did you do a dry test fit?

Why not go with the metal backed rubber gasket like factory?

These were the gaskets that they had in stock without my having to wait a week for them to get OE gaskets in.

The fitup seemed fine, these seem like more than 'squeeze-out' but maybe I'm wrong I'll get some pics.

Can't see much from that view. Doesn't look too bad, but with just one view it's hard to tell.

I guess the answer is if they don't leak they're okay. With cork gaskets you usually need to come back a time or two to re-snug them though. Just don't over tighten the bolts.

It looks like you put a lot of RTV goop on the gaskets. If you did and installed them wet that can cause the gasket to squish out. I usually just use a little 3M weather stripping adhesive to hold the gasket to the cover (nothing on the head side) and I let the adhesive tack-up before putting the gasket on the covers.
