1996 Ford Explorer XLT
My friend (Captain in the Navy) owned this and I helped his brother drive it up from San Diego in 2003 I think it was maybe. A 1996 Explorer XLT. My Buddy then drove it in Portland lightly for years taking very good care of it but it developed some issues. It would vibrate convulsively. We cracked the windshield on the way up he recalled and it had gotten real bad so got a new one and a tire to replace a damaged one and shocks to curb the convulsing until I figured what it was. THe ignition distribution module seemed to be it when I finally got an engine code. Funny he never got one while it was convulsing! MIsfire on cylinder 2 was the message. 47 something at Wal Mart online for the module and I also got an odometer gear from a place for 10 plus..10 shipping roughly. lol. Yeah I'm sure it took 10 bucks for a super light packet with a .01 ounce piece of nylon in there. hehe. Best deal I could find. Amazed what people get for those.

Anyway installing was easy once I got it open. The gear indicator cable was a bit awkward under the cluster there but finally got things figured out. CONTRARY to what I thought I saw in a vid, you can just lift plastic retainer clips and twist the motor with the worm drive on it and remove interconnect and pull it right out.

Also cleaned out one of the tubes that drains the moon roof with some steel wire and it's all draining again! Some RV goop repairs to hold the seat switching plastic panel left of driver's seat and getting some water out of the tail light that got bumped but not quite broken... I see stress marks and I just goop'd around it . This is a SWEET RIDE now! The V6 has reasonable power. Better at low elevation for sure. I'm in Bozeman now at 4800 feet.
