Hello All!

I was recently gifted my mom's old 1992 Explorer and I'm looking to take it to all the places that she never did, namely out of the city!

My mom bought it new and it has ~140k on the clock. I need to go over the whole truck and do a good once over since it was never really used very much. I think the 4WD system was engaged ONCE in the whole time that she owned it.

Anyways, I'm going to be lurking for a bit while I'm getting it into snow worthy condition! :)

Great deal. I suspect you're going to have issues with the 4x4. You'll find answers to any Explorer questions here, though, so you've started out your ownership very responsibly. :D Welcome!

My truck started as a hand me down. It was something I never would have bought on my own, but good luck trying to pry that pink slip out of my hands now!

Welcome!

Good luck ! welcome to the site.
Like OffTrac said, you may have some problems with your 4x4. hopefully not ...
I have a feeling it'll be like an old codgers old knees ... just getting a little sore after sittin for a while.

Thanks everyone. I'm hoping that a long overdue fluid change will help with every thing. The 4x4 is my main concern right now as I prepare for snow season driving to Tahoe. Next on the list is tracking down a minor oil leak and coolant smell. These are all things I've known about for a while and never tried to hard to fix but now that it's mine... ;)

Is there anywhere in particular I should start with the 4x4 system?

Welcome to the forum! You best bet would be to start with the differentials and transfer case. Getting fresh fluid into all three areas would definitely put some longevity back into them
