Hello! Not only am I a newly registered member (although I have lurked in the shadows), I am a new Explorer owner. Two days ago, I bought a 1998 Explorer XLT, of the AWD variety with the 5.0l V8. It has some problems, but that's to be expected for the price I got it for, and the number of miles. It had a full tranny rebuild about 6 months ago, and the engine purrs like a kitten. It had the factory fog lamps, but at some point, someone took out the housings and cut one of the wires (driver's side), and the front end is noisier than I think it should be (although I am new to the AWD thing, my last car being a 2002 Liberty with part-time 4WD), but the noise I'm hearing could be normal (or at least to be expected). It also has a small exhaust leak on the passenger side that I need to track down; the previous owner thought it might be coming from the flange just below the oxygen sensor.
Anyhoo, I look forward to learning even more about this Explorer. So far, even with its quirks, I love it!
