Hello everyone,
I am new here and have come to do some research as I shop for used Explorer. I think I know what I want but I need to learn what models have which features, what the codes mean, what to shy away from, and how to find a bargain.
I like the 03+ Explorer/Mountaineer/Aviator and I think I want an 03 or 04 XLT V8 for towing purposes. I want to tow a 4500 trailer and only need to tow 2-3 times per year.
I'd really like to know what the tow capacities are for various models, how to identify which packages are cetain vehicled by the VIN codes, and hear any stories that people with towing experience can share.
Oh BTW - I drive a 2008 Taurus Duratec right now, have owned an 03 Taurus SEL, as well a couple of Crown Vics (one was a sweet 2002 Sport). The point is, I know a few things about Fords.
