Newbe Guage install

i was removing my guage to install white face gauges, when i got to the part where i had to remove the plastic cover i didnt stop to think, and i pulled and the plastic broke right in half. so i ordered a new guage cluster off of ebay for dirt cheap, but dont want to make the same mistake. is there any way to get the plastic off, anysolutions i can use, or do i just need a heat gun to melt the glue???? any help would be greatly apreciated.
