91 ford ranger
Hi Guys
My name is Bill I'm 75 YO ( come 9 /13 ) Live in Oregon ,, I am a hot rodder at heart, have a couple of street rods , (only FORD is a 48 Anglia thames 1/4 T panel ,Presently a unfinished project)
I also have a 91 ford Ranger that my son drives to work,, we recently put a new clutch , and pressure plate in it,, al that stuff works fine but the oil pressure gage fluctuates , we did change the oil and filter,
Think it might be the gage or possably be a plugged oil line to the gage

anyone have someone have some suggestions to try, like maybe a new gage to start< or sending unit , I hate the thought of having to put a new pump in the thing,,,
Thanks in advance for any infro from all you dyed in the wool Ford guys:) Bill

Welcome Bill!
It would help to say which engine the Ranger has, 2.3, 2.9, or 4.0.
Also, I moved your post into the Ranger section for you.

I had an 89 Ranger do this many years ago. I bought a new sending unit and found while changing it that the connector was kind of loose. After installing the new sending unit the gauge still fluctuated. I then crimped the connector a little to get a better fit. That solved the problem.

There is no oil line to the gage. The gage works like an idiot light. It shows either no pressure or medium pressure. The gage in Rangers before mid 90s can be modified to work like a real gage but you have to get a different sending unit to go with it. So unless someone has done the modification, it will not show pressure changes due to a bad oil pump. Chances are very good that the oil pump is fine.
