According to my Haynes manual, when I remove the brake caliper mounting bolt there should be a lubicating gel on it. However, the bolt is bone dry. At the date of publication, they said there were no known substitute for this gel.

Does anyone know what I should be using to lubricate this bolt???

BTW, it's a 1997 Ford Explorer Sport, if it makes any difference.

You can get brake caliper grease at an auto parts store that will work fine. Just make sure you put a good coat on the bolt so the caliper can move.

Any disc brake grease will work. You can usually get it in packets at places like Autozone, etc. As Hartman said, make sure there is plenty on the bolts/slide pins.
