Hey everyone, just joined to my recent purchase of a very clean low mileage 1997 Mercury Mountaineer with a 5.0 and AWD. I got a great deal on it because of a P0443 code that stymied the local mechanic. Hopefully the Mounty is close enough to being an Explorer that the knowledge base is the same.

Welcome. PO443 is an Evap code. Google the code & you could read up on it, or do a search here. When I bought my 2000 Ranger 2 years ago it had an evap code & it ended up having a badly rusted filler neck & a cracked filler hose causing the problem.
