This is my first forum, my first Explorer (1997 XLT), first crack at a 4x4 I've never worked on before. I've had it for 2 months and although it is clean & straight the usual front hub 'humming' has already reared it's ugly head, & just to keep me out of trouble the left rear axle seal had a major fail. So along with chatting here when I can there will be plenty more research to do as I put all the repairs into it. Front hubs ordered & in transit, researched install, nothing too hard there but when I read up on rear seal replacement things got a bit more interesting. This 'ol girl is destined to be my transport for those hard to get at places as I travel around Oz in a bus. So although she will be on a trailer for the long hauls there will be plenty of work for her to do as we explore each destination. Therefor my theory is replace it all, hubs, seals, discs, pads, shoes, the whole shootin match. Next stop, repair & maintenance manual. I'm taking a big bite, now I gotta chew it. Have a great week, cheers.
